Emelind
Emelind has the wild, playful nature of the faerie, but also an uncharacteristic bitterness.
Until her seventeenth birthday, she believed she was a normal human girl with normal, if
cold, human parents. Finding out that she was a changeling and that the world she
lived in wasn't hers... well, that was bad enough. But not being able to go home with her
real family once they found her, and being flung into an unfamiliar land, owning nothing
but her name...? Emelind's one goal is to reach the Faerie lands, and she will do
anything to get there. Even if she has no idea what to expect from it, it's the
only home she has. Better a strange home than none at all.

Fihn ("Specs")
Fihn leaves other people alone in the hopes of being left alone, himself. Having been
an assistant librarian for a number of years, he always pays attention to detail and
to The Rules. He has to, because someone will always be looking for an excuse to pick
on him. He looks fae because of the ears, but he isn't and resents being identified
as such. He dislikes the fae because of a curse that was placed on his family. Whether
this curse has anything to do with his appearance remains to be seen. Other than that -
he and Emelind have much, much more in common than they realize.

Mrs. Winifred (Winifred serving as both last and first name) has worked at the library
longer than anyone knows - certainly longer than any of the previous caretakers. She
knows the place inside out, While she is a bit loopy, she's a very kind old lady, who isn't
as crazy as she looks. |

Mavcomb is a cat. That's obvious. He is also a talking cat who is the head librarian. He
likes to be the boss, and he mostly lazes around all day, telling Fihn what section to put
the books under. That doesn't mean he doesn't pay attention to what's going on. As a cat,
he thinks it's his job to find things out. Meddlng is a favorite pastime of his.

Norah, granddaughter of Mrs. Winifred, is a prime example of a person with faery phobia.
Norah is a sweet girl, innocent, and prone to giggle fits. She wouldn't harm a fly.
But she's also easily frightened: even bringing up the word 'fae' in a conversation
makes her uneasy. So it's no surprise that she'll run away screaming upon meeting a real,
live, faery. She might not harm a fly, but she makes an exception for faeries.
